Local Restaurant Week is a biannual event that celebrates the vital role our local independent restaurants and vendors play in contributing to Western New York’s cultural identity and regional economy. Not all clients look for long-term consistent social media assistance. Event-based social media involves high hours in a short burst. Community management is key and every retweet, share, and comment is a golden opportunity to spread awareness and joy. Local Restaurant Week has over 200 participating restaurants and is restricted to one geographical region.
Implementing a social media listening software that could consolidate our social media interactions into one stream. I brought in Sprout Social for a 30-day trial and utilized their Messages tab. Every question, comment, or concern was locked in one column that I could interact with around the clock. Secondly, the Search tab allowed me to search and keep tabs on our branded hashtags across platforms #localrestaurantweek #localresetwny and #localrestaurantweekwny. This made repurposing user-generated content easy and engaging. Searching also made it possible to reach out to influencers in the Buffalo area, including local radio personnel.
Who does not enjoy a good food photo on Instagram? Creativity was abundant with all of the fun food photos from participating restaurants and visitors of restaurants. To avoid favoritism we relied heavily on user-generated content and encouraged our audience by constantly liking, commenting, and thanking our fans. We can’t wait to see what happens in the Spring with Local Restaurant Week 2017!
